BBC Look North cameras were at church this morning with Rhona and Philip Thompson to do a piece on the churchyard. It is scheduled to be on this evening between 1830-1900. Please watch if you can !

Lockdown 2021 - Day 51Today’s verse is from Psalm 27 v1 NCV“The LORD is my light and the one who saves me. So why should I fear anyone? The LORD protects my life. So why should I be afraid?”I have noticed how each sentence is positive despite the negative words used. The negatives here of fear and being afraid are just used as throwaway words at the end of the sentence. They are not the focus. The positive and main focus of this verse is God being the saviour, the light in the darkness and the protector. So, if our main focus in life is looking towards God and how He looks after us and is our place of safety, then the other negative things that happen in our lives become blurry and out of focus. They still happen but they don’t become our main thought, we don’t dwell on them. We acknowledge them but then turn our thoughts back to God. Lockdown 2021 - Day 50Today’s verse is Psalm 28 v7“The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him.” NIVHere we have the word shield again but also the word strength. I have never done it, but I expect that holding a shield all day is quite tiring, but God is the strength we need and will help us hold it up all day long, or for however long we need to. The other things that pops out at me today is “my heart trusts in Him”. I find this very comforting because my heart knows God and knows all of His promises, what lets me down sometimes is my head, my brain. I often overthink things and wonder why God would bother with little old me. But even when I am thinking these things my heart knows God. My heart points me towards God’s word and I remember that Jesus died for me. My heart points me towards Christian choruses and hymns and then I know in my head what my heart has known all along – God loves me. That’s when I sing along and begin to praise Him. ...
